Is your campsite near enough to a good fishing spot? (Does the campsite allow open air fire/cooking?)
Off topic question:
Is graffiti in Japan (in general) indicative of gang-related activity, as it is now more frequently in US? I noticed photo details near your trial run setup.
The place in the photos is not a camping area. I set it up only for the day, afternoon actually, to check it out and air it out. People do fish in the river, I saw 3 people doing so while I was there. Not sure I’d want to eat anything from it though, given all the industrial waste and ag runoff. We have built a small fire to cook lunch along the levy a ways down, not sure it is allowed or not though.
Graffiti such as in my photos is relatively new. I seem to recall seeing some long ago but it has been rare. Recently I am seeing it just about everywhere. Not as bad as in the States, but increasing. I was shocked to see some on this bridge. Never had before yesterday, in my 20 years going there. There was graffiti near my Ned school that was quickly removed. There is now a sign in multiple languages stating that graffiti is a crime and that the wall is monitored with 24/7 cameras.
Japan is also “welcoming” in 3rd would “refugees” and some ares are starting to experience the same as place in Europe. Local are pissed off, police side with the “migrants”. This graffiti might be a result of gangs of such people OR just locals copying what they see on TV thinking it is cool. I have no idea though.
I was also surprised to see graffiti in the photo and also surprised the police would side with immigrants/refugees. You will probably have heard of the huge numbers of immigrants taking over places like the UK, seemingly even encouraged by the government and against the wishes of the majority of the population. Same thing happening across Europe and of course the US. But, I had assumed until now that countries like Japan were not part of this. Even Hong Kong seems to be taking in a lot of people from both African countries and also countries around the Indian subcontinent. The rate at which some of these countries seem to be losing people it makes me wonder if there’s anyone left behind. And the main reason for many of these people being displaced in the first place is due to conflicts which were caused by western governments in the first place. All they would need to do is stop feeding the wars and instead invest in these countries and there’d be no reason for people to flee. Something very sinister if even the police in Japan have been told to leave these people alone.
Indeed, I am am aware of the immigrant problems in Europe and especially GR as well as those of the US and Canada. But we are beginning to have them here in Japan too. Kawaguchi City is just across the Edogawa river from Tokyo to the north. It has a large Kurdish population and they are apparently making no effort to assimilate. Granted, Japanese society is notoriously difficult to assimilate with, but they do generally appreciate efforts to do so. That certainly has been my experience even though I have no interest in full assimilation. The police do not respond to the Japanese residents calls over problems with the migrants. And criticism of them disrupting daily, civil life of the locals is of course “racism”. And sadly, it does cause all we gaijin to be painted with the same broad brush.
Something sinister is afoot. The motive force behind all that we see in Europe, N. America and Japan is the same. Look at the UN’s SDGs. It used to be right on the surface, now you need to dig a bit, but while each SDG focuses on one aspect of the UN’s version of a better world, they all function in support of all others. ALL SDGs then support and actually push unimpeded migration AND the LGBTQWTFO agenda. Every single SDG does. Every nation that has agreed to the UN’s SDG policy then supports these, among many others. Therefore, when US Secretary of Homeland Security, Mayorkas repeatedly stated that there no problems with the US border, he as not lying. The Biden admin was just implementing the UN’s agenda as it agreed to do. Same with all the other nations that are engaged in this madness, Japan included.
For several years now, starting before the panic I have noted a vast increase in women wearing Muslim attire. First it was Malaysians, more recently, middle easterners. My last visit to Immigration to update my residency visa on the receipt of a new US passport, there were many large Muslim families there. Never had seen that before. Very common to see one man of the faith with several women appropriately attire with a large number of kids of various ages wandering around at all hours of the working day. O have wondered from where their living expenses come from as they certainly are not engaged in any kind of labor that ones would connect to earning a wage.
More power to you, Kitsune. (All this stuff is absolutely Greek to me. lol. I grew up in L.A. and have never spent a night "outside" (in a tent or otherwise) in my life. )
Good location. Too bad about the graffiti on the bridge pillar though. I just saw the comment from BetterOffRed below and BOR seems to have the same concern. Anyone familiar with the Broken Window Theory should be aware of the consequences. The next town is a mess. Someone wrote "From the Rever to the Sea" on the wall and my first reaction was "What's a rever?" This adds weight to my theory: Marxists can't spell.
Yes, that was what I saw near my med school, though it was spelled correctly. In the weeds next to the graffitied pylon was at least two bags of cosmetics and perhaps, drug paraphernalia. I don’t know because I did not tough it. But it did tell me that not only would it not be safe to stay over night, it’s not safe to leave the tent up all night to say dry after rewaterproofing it.
Sadly, a renovated century old farm house and storage house that opened just before the panic as a coffee house, art gallery, kodomo shokudo and event space that we have spent a lot of time at had a “Warm Home Palestine” cloth sign slung over their outer wall today as I drove by.
I am glad they spelled it correctly. But I am sure they do not know which rover nor which sea. I do think Japan has been infiltrated by the same clowns that have infiltrated the US but not to the same degree. They are probably being paid as well.
Dear K, great looking rig and results!!

SDGs. They are omnipresent in Japan.

That’s sad! Camping is great. Better when young though.

I have a very frightening story on that from the late 90s. Too late to write about it tonight, but I thought I had seen my last sunset.
I think you told me about it. But I would like to hear it again.
