Eclectic Update
Masks, SDGs and others.
Survived another day at the med school. As I detailed in an earlier post, it can’t last unless they suddenly decide to drop the requirement. There is not a lot of time between classes and with all the electronic stuff used, it takes time to pack things away and for the next teacher to set up their stuff. I was es till packing up when the next teacher and a staff member came in to set up the projector and screen. They of course were masked. While neither said anything about me being unmasked, experience tells me that either they will or they will complain. Just a matter of time.
After dropping off my gear in the classroom, I went upstairs to the vending machine for a drink. Usually, I take the stairs but my legs were still killing me from carrying mikoshi for the Kanda Matsuri the weekend before. Stepping out of the elevator was a new coworker. Is this her first year or 4th or in between? I know not as we have all online for the past three years. All I know is that she was working at that school prior to the panic. She was masked.
One of my 3rd year nursing students is on medical leave. Do not yet know the nature of her health issue but this is the first time I have had a student take off indefinitely for a physical health issue. Just before my medical school class started, a staff member (masked) rushed in with a note telling me that a student would be absent. She had a fever. This too was unusual. In fact, unique. Usually the student would just tell me why they were absent the next class they attend and if they can provide a doctor’s note, the absence is excused. Also note worthy is the fact that my 9 year old’s home room teacher has taken at least 2 weeks off due to health. Again, another first. Now, these facts alone do not really indicate anything, however, I am left wondering why it is that these three unique, in my experience, situations occurred at the same time, at this time. I do not believe in coincidences.
The small number of unmasked students in my Monday class was even smaller this past Monday, however, for the first time in 3 years my Thursday class had several unmasked students. One, however, was unmasked when I entered the classroom but donned a mask when it was time to start class. What is that all about? Both Tuesday and Thursday nights I saw a single, unmasked mother, waiting for their kid after swim practice. There is another father who goes unmasked like myself but this was the first time in almost 3 and 1/3 years that I have seen any other parent unmasked at the swim school. I also saw a swim coach without a mask, again for the first time in almost 3 and 1/2 years. The other coach was masked. Another first since the panic began, I saw a cook at Wendy’s unmasked. The two cashiers there were masked though. All the plastic covid barriers at a McDonalds I am obliged to dine at on Mondays were gone this week. The previous week it was just barriers between the customers and cashiers that had been removed.
On the train I saw an advertisement for lessons for women to relearn how to apply makeup to the bottom half of their faces to match the makeup styles for the eyes that came in to fashion these past three years. On Instagram I have found these, pictured below. The first states that there are classes to teach smiling again and the second indicates another reason many may be reluctant to remove the mask.
Well, masks do effectively cover blemishes.
The cough my kid picked up while still required to wear a mask persists. It was knocked quite a bit with symptom relieving meds that we discontinued due to abdominal pain. Not sure these two are linked but he had to take medication for his stomach pain and diarrhea so the cough medicine had to stop for fear of drug interaction.
A reader alerted me to SDGs. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) statements, which seem to support the E of ESG; Environment, Social and Governance scoring system that, as I recently learned, dates as far back 2004/2005 are posted all over the place. An online ESL textbook store has their SDG statement on their webpage. The Ueno Zoo had a billboard with their SDG statement displayed. My local grocery/small department store has a SDG statement poster on the wall of the escalator and my dry cleaner has an SDG statement poster near their cash register.

Here in Nova Scotia, Canada...a province that is addicted to government handouts...is also very compliant to gov edicts. Close to 50% of the population were still masked until recently, while shopping. I was away for a mth so will take note later today as I head up town.
Most are jabbed, many boosted...and virtually no one has any info on anything but what their television tells them.
A beautiful, screwed up place in a screwed up country.
Last December I had my last in person, corporate meeting of my career. Had to fly to my old, hated, Leftist stomping grounds, Northern Kalifornia. My team was only 8 people, we had 3 days of meetings. My colleague from Florida, and I, were the only two unjabbed, unmasked, and HEALTHY people. My boss flew in from Michigan (former Seattle/Microsoft asshole), and I recall thinking he was retarded, being masked.
Anyway, 2nd day we all went to lunch, cute small town called Mountain View, that is all ethnic (Mostly Asian) restaurants. We had sushi. The lone female of the group (Sr. Product Manager) was masked. Then, unmasked. Then, masked. It pissed me off. A lot. I finally asked her (she looked like an aging bull dyke lesbian, but she was married and childless), WTF she was doing playing musical masks? her response? "The time I do have it on, minimizes exposure." This was quite clearly a Leftist cope, these imbeciles practice, when speaking retard to retard (Leftist to Leftist). It did not work with me, and I sort of bullied her.
I was let go after the Christmas break, a month later. I have no doubt it was me discussing LOUDLY all the reasons I was unjabbed. This company, did not let me physically in their Kalifornia HQ until mid September of 2022! Only jabbed allowed, so this was my first, and last, in person meeting except for some trade shows.
I have to tell you, my time since, has been incredible! The world is filled with some truly whacked people. Uncontrollable feels, insane hypocrisies. I have become a certifiable Misanthrope. I do not like Leftists, and the rules of the planet have been made by them. Unlike most, I never hid my disdain.
Not that you are here soliciting advice, but you know mine would be to leave the Mask-tards, the family, the teaching jobs. Go live someplace fun, not infested by neurosis.
