Enjoy these moments while you can. Personally, I would continue to do the dishes by hand. Sometimes it is important to suffer. I don't think the Amish have dishwashers. Their thinking is probably why use electricity when they could do it themselves.

In principle, I agree but I've lived without a dishwasher for the last two and a half years, and I have admit that I miss the convenience!

As I am in a similar situation but in the early stages, is this convenience worth $800-$900?

In my opinion, 100% yes.

Thanks. That helps in the decision making.

The Amish have the model of dish washer my parents had….kids.

I do not like doing the dishes but do not mind doing them. The problem is the time and even more importantly, when. With the oldest finishing cram school at 8:30, we eat late and I have to wait till showers are taken before I can wash the dishes.

Glad the saga of the dishwasher is not as bad as originally feared.

I am amazed at how late the cherry blossom is this year compared to the last few years. It looks like some of the blossom near us in Izumo will not even be fully open this coming weekend when normally by this time we see the petal blizzards as they flowers finish.

The sakura are acting very strange this year, that is for sure. I have seen them pause blooming when it turned cold again but they then POP open into full bloom at the first warmer day. This year they are like in a state of suspended animation for weeks despite it getting warm again. No worries, according to National Geographic and I am sure BBC writer Matt McGrath, they bloomed early again this year proving that global warming is real.

So refreshing to read something more positive.

The strange but pleasant feeling you had was probably helped by the alcohol which allowed you to release your concentration on the present and get a wider sense of all that is. There is no such thing as time outside this material existence so all that was, all that is and all that will ever be exists right now.

No doubt, the 12% alcohol content of the Imperial Stout played its part.

Good read, such good times to be had, it is the season of it.

I do dishes by hand, as I can't stand the noise of a typical dish washer. It's only the two of us, but the scads of pet bowls of the rescued menagerie count as two additional family members (lol).

After two nights of starting dishes after midnight, I am leaning heavily towards replacing the dishwasher. We went to a night game last night.

Years ago when we were thought we were busy but not really, or at least no where near as busy as we would become, we used to watch TV every now and then. A commercial fro some new series from the States featured an angry mother-in-law saying “What kind of family has dinner at 7pm!?”. My looked at me and asked what was wrong with having dinner at 7? 7 pm is an early dinner here. Further it is rare to have the whole family together for any meal during the week and only slightly less so for weekends.

We try to eat together but this means we all eat late. Two nights a week I get home at 9pm, the ten year old’s cram school finishes at 8:30 pm three nights a week and my wife works at home from 8:30 am to at least 10 pm at night. Irregularly scheduled meetings often interfere with us being able to eat together at any time during the week.

For me, it isn’t the actual task, it is when I can do it. Can’t wash dishes before they are used and once we have dinner then it’s the parade of showered and baths that we can not pull hot water from. AH! The dishwashers we are looking at are claimed by those that use them to not interfere with the hot water supply, in fact was cannot use hot water from our water heater. It heats the water it uses. So, this would be a big positive change. I still had to wait till bathing was done to run the dish washer and for it to finish before I could take my shower, but I packed for the next day when it was running. This will be a huge benefit. Might be able to hit the rack before midnight if we get the one we are looking at. But man, ¥80,000-90,000 is a lot of money.

Sounds like, just like with the rest of the west, the cult of mask has a stronger presence among the intelligentsia than among the family oriented over there. Nice to hear!

"We got to the cram school just as they were letting out but due to the number of kids and only one elevator we had to wait longer than expected."

This sounds a bit strange to me. Is it one of those apartment/office complexes with a 'staircase' more reminiscent of a ladder, or is it at the height of a high-rise complex?

Kitsune, Maskless Crusader.'s avatar

I am not sure why they had to use the elevator. The other building students are not allowed to use the elevator. I think, but do not know that the stairs are usually inaccessible from the ground floor for security reasons. I know that is the case at the inlaws’ apartment building.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you and your Family had a wonderful time. I know some people that went to Washington, DC to see the cherry blossoms. I have experienced what you are talking about. Just a week ago I went to this estate sale. I went into one room and felt that I was there before. I couldn't remember anything else. The house was owned by a relative of

Thomas Edison. This was in central Florida. Are YOU and your Family safe with the bad weather

coming your way? Keep us updated. Thinking of YOU :-)

Kitsune, Maskless Crusader.'s avatar

Uh oh…what bad weather coming our way? I notice on my weather app a couple of hours ago that we are to get rain daily for at least the next 10 days but other than that I know of no weather news. Parts of Japan, far from me, are expecting or have already had tsunami from the quake in Taiwan.

Should I check the weather news here?

Lynn's avatar

Hi.....I was just reading about Japan weather. I didn't know where you were located. Glad

YOU and YOUR Family are safe. :-)
