Yep. The year before the panic a typhoon the day of the matsuri. So, my 10 year old had to wait half his life to play drums for the festival again. However, many large matsuri are only held once every 3, 5 or in on case thirty some years! The main shrine of my city has a matsuri every year where the neighborhood mikoshi are brought in to the shrine grounds but the actual matsuri is only once every 5 years. For the real festival, the Shrines huge mikoshi and various accoutrements are brought out and carried in a fashion unique in the are, perhaps all of Japan. For this matsuri, the local mikoshi and music groups are not allowed within the Shrine precincts. It is a huge event that is planned for a few years and has massive turn out.
Well, until last year anyway.
In our case, I think the short notice and the long interval for what was once a yearly event combined to hurt turn out. Losses to death and illness didn’t help either. But when I consider your comments, yes, we are lucky to have had as many participate as we did.
The first in 5 years! I wouldn't expect great participation, but you has a good turnout.
Despite the masks.
