We just went through our own dishwasher drama we went from a Bosch to entry-level Mile. I think we should’ve stuck with the Bosch and gone for a higher end one but personally, I hate all dishwashers. I think the soap they use leaves chemicals on your plates, which you can just smell I guess you can do an extra rinse but to me as long as I have rubber gloves and hot water I wash my own dishes always ..everybody else can use the dishwasher and let the dishes rot until there’s enough of them to turn the thing on, I find washing dishes, quite therapeutic myself

If I didn’t have other things I have to do, washing the dishes wouldn’t bother me.

The dishwasher you bought is equivalent to crippleware. It isn't just lacking AI & a window, it has less useful racks. Why? To 'encourage' customers to buy the 'upgraded' unit. The scheme works best when a trained salesman points out the racks in the mire expensive unit are so much more functional than the cheap unit . The customer agrees and decides to purchase the higher profit margin unit. It might cost the manufacturer nothing or few bucks more to install the same good racks in all the units. And if the AI unit connects to the Internet & uploads data, there's even more incentive to cripple the cheaper unit. That data is valuable. Bonus: In the future, governments will be able to shut off the appliances of citizens with low credit score, political dissidents, etc. All homes in Smart Cities will have internet connected everything.

While that is happening and a I have the same fears, in this particular case, all three models have the same racks. Which, is one reason I find the whole situation strange. Thanks for the new term, I was not aware of “crippleware”. The technique you describe I was familiar with, but not the term.

Regarding the cleaning tip:

I have to say our dishwasher racks are odd too. But I've got used to them.

Love the link.

Hopefully, I will quickly learn to work with the quirks of the new washer’s racks.

Tokorode, about a week ago I drafted a post for the travel substack, have you seen it? I sent a mail through Proton but I have received zero mails over it in over a week and wondering if there is a problem with my account.

We bought a washer that has a mind of it's own. I'm still trying to figure it out. Our dryer broke during Thanksgiving. We had to wait weeks to get the part. Apparently, they might not be making it anymore. I called all over our area for a repair company. It was unbelievable. I couldn't find anybody. I called one place that had independent contractors who did the jobs. We didn't want somebody that was not in the area. I finally found a family owned company and they were able to order the part.

The knob had to be replaced. Then my husband overloaded the dryer and broke the belt after that which made me furious. Finally, everything was fixed. Hopefully, it will last a long time. The

repairman did tell us that no parts were available to fix parts of our oven. The burners work,

but the oven doesn't heat properly. So for now, my husband went out and bought a

convection oven. It works great :-) Thanks for sharing.

I am thinking of going into business operating a junk yard for household appliances. Seriously, there is probably some one out there driving themselves nuts looking for a part for the same model of washer that we just replaced.

Is this not one of the scenes oft repeated in dystopian, fall of civilization movies; needing to soft through the refuse of a former era for parts to keep things going because no one is making anything anymore?

A return to the good 'ol days when we could have conversations about the things that mattered: the home front. This is something the dumb soulless weirdos will never understand. I would write more but I have to go bake an apple pie and then cool it off on the windowsill.
