I sympathize either way your ongoing Nenkin nightmares. How smothering.

I escaped Commie California and moved to a very poor southern state. I painfully discovered here they tax the heck out of my pension and social security. And I discovered the ultimate “hillbilly shakedown “ property tax on my two vehicles every year. Pay up or no registration renewal..

Sounds like my native State, geographically north but politically coastal and culturally southern. Vehicle tax that must be paid or can’t register is certainly not foreign to me, but I am surprised that the left coast doesn’t have this tax. Taxing pensions and SS is two of the biggest crimes. Does Florida tax these?

That really sucks. I'm glad your knee is doing so well, so you don't have to deal with that on top of everything else.

If I had my knee still bothering me as it was, life would be hard to bare.

Yep. I have to deal with these pricks (double entendre) tomorrow and probably Thursday and Friday). I am bringing recording devices and a list of questions. I will let you know how it goes...if I make it out alive.

Ephesians 6:10

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

I knew I was going to lose but I went in anyway. Take the loss. Be ready for the next battle. Which I will probably lose. But I will go in anyway.

Nenkin? What happened?

Seems like I am in the same boat you are in. Not necessarily the Titanic or the SS Indianapolis but there are some rough waves ahead. I am kind of happy about the experience because it forced me to look for loopholes. I am working on them and I will let you know what I find. Any info about Thursday the 26th. I could meet about 2pm or so.

I am free until 4 pm on the 26th. Monday night I saw two of the work booths in Ueno station. There were some in Akihabara, I think, but the station is being renovated so they are gone.

"What kind of fucked up government do you have there?"

"You motherfuckers aren't safe anywhere!"

"I'm going to hunt you down!"

Warning, this may get a reaction!

From "The Rock" starring Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage (the chemical weapons super freak).

Not much different in the States, land of the free, home of the brave. Not as sneaky, perhaps, but plenty of trick me Fauci me.

Is it too personal to ask if you feel you're being singled out for extra abuse by government functionaries because you're American? (That's my impression. But they may be just as unnecessarily abusive to all...)

No, they are an equal opportunity abuser. I personally know Brits, Canadians, Aussies Americans and have read and heard about Japanese getting treated the same. The difference is, with Japanese, if they worked before graduating college and entering the corporate world, they have had to make these payments and thus know of them. Coming from countries that withhold everything at the source, we have no way to know that what we are paying in taxes is not covering these programs. I wonder what else is out there waiting to hit me with payments I have zero funds to cover.

What a frustrating bureaucracy.

Fortunately you have your mobility back.

Good luck landing the potential new position at the new med school where you’d be working with your favorite department head again -- with the possibility of it leading to more work.

Thanks. In the short term, the possible new position is problematic as it conflicts with one of my few remaining jobs. As soon as I get confirmed at this position, if I do, I need to contact this other school. Love this other school but it is only a one semester course and the new one is year long. However, the half year is for two class periods. I hope they can rearrange the schedule so that I can continue with them. Giving up one of my few jobs for a single other new job is not going to help me financially, at least not in the short term.

I hope it works out you can do both, with a rearranged schedule in the current position. And that the potential new post leads to additional work. (There likely aren't many others with your unique background, qualifications and experience.)

Got the email today telling me they my old and again new boss “hankoed” the paperwork and gave more details on the class. Soon thereafter, I emailed the school I now had a time conflict with and they replied at 8:30 pm tonight that will are working to schedule to class to fit my new schedule. So, it looks like I am actually adding income.

No, there are not. Alas, this matters little. All that matters is that I have a Masters or a Doctorate and will follow any instruction given, including to wear a mask.
